Back from Paris for only a few hours now, after visiting the world’s premiere TREND trade show for fashion and accessories. The trade show is called WHAT’S NEXT and it certainly didn’t disappoint, introducing new trends, innovations and improvements.

My big report is that 3D-printed clothes are destined to be something that everyone will have in their wardrobe for everything from special occasion dresses to lingerie and accessories.

3D printers are an amazing wave of the future, and patterns are now being created to print corsets, dresses, straps, fasteners, accessories and even fabric that can then be sewn.

Just as many homes today have sewing machines and creative people who can whip up a dress in an afternoon, eventually more and more homes will have 3D printers that can be programmed in minutes to create a new original design or work from an established pattern. The imagination and convenience of this is astonishing to think about.

The 3D “material” is currently mostly based in plastics, but innovation and advancements are changing this as well. The printed materials are promising that the comfort, flexibility, stretch, breathability and beauty of your 3D creations will also make them wearable.

Clothing and accessories as your canvas!

With the development of swift and inexpensive textile printing, designers have hit the paints and are creating amazing garments and accessories that are true works of art. Hand-painted clothing and accessories are a major trend for 2017, as unique, personalized, artisan pieces take precedence over mass-produced common clothing.

My favorite aspect of this trend is that YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN WEARABLE ART!

Just like any big-name designer, each of us has the ability to paint on our own clothes to create a one-of-a-kind look that is eye-catching and special.

You can find washable fabric paint at any craft store and lots of tutorials for applications on YouTube. What a fabulous way to level-up anything and put your unique stamp on your fashions. Think of how many things can be your canvas!

Happy New Year!

It’s a new beginning and a time for resolutions. We all know that if resolutions are too hard and drastic, they will be broken within just a few days, so let’s talk about a few changes that we can make that will stick!

All my years working on the NBC show STARTING OVER taught me that we all want more love, money, beauty/body-care and family. This is a simple universal truth.

These desires can be interpreted differently for everyone – like finding a partner, excelling at work, stronger family ties or a better body and health…but basically we want to make strides in the L.M.B.F. arena.

So if we know that improvements in these areas can make a major difference in our lives, we should dedicate at least 30 minutes a week, 2 hours a month, 24 hours a year – One full day of 2017 – to improving each of the L.M.B.F. categories.

Maybe this week, you give yourself an at-home facial, work on your dating profile, take the lead at work and call an old cousin you haven’t spoken with in years? Next week, plan a hike, update your resume, shop for a new dress and send some thank-you notes. Week three, schedule brunch with an old friend, open a savings account, take a Zumba class and get a haircut.

The point is to realize that LOVE, MONEY, BEAUTY & FAMILY are at the core of all of our needs and desires, so we need to keep taking the baby steps each week of the year that will surely add up to big improvements by the end of 2017.

Bring on the happiness, 30 minutes at a time!

The three super-easy things you need to ring in the New Year with great style! Come on! Start 2017 with a little effort and pizazz!

1. Wear something sequined!

Whether it’s a sequined tee shirt, leggings or a fabulous dress, wear something with sparkle on the best party night of the year. Even if you’re just going to dinner with friends, don’t miss the chance to shine.

2. Glitter your eyes and nails!

Great style is often in the details, so don’t forget to bejewel your eyes and nails for New Year’s Eve. When everything else is a little basic, your eye makeup and nails can turn the style dial to “fancy” with minimal effort. So don’t forget the iridescence and glittery fun for your lids and tips!

3. Special hair

Take the extra ten minutes and do something extra with your hair!! Add a braid, some curls, an updo or crimping.

Just do something different and special. Even if you’re in a 20-year-old outfit, special hair, glittery eyes/nails and something sequined will have you looking ready for a New Year’s rocking Eve!!

Your washing machine needs some mouthwash?!

Yep, you heard me. Your washing machine needs some mouthwash.

Once a season, you should run 1-2 cups of mouthwash through your washing machine to kill germs, eliminate residue and disengage any build-up. This is especially true for the wintertime when our clothes become more “pill HAPPY!”

Your washing machine, once cleaned with mouthwash, will leave your clothes much cleaner and allow you to reduce the number of necessary washings. This will reduce the friction strain put on your fall and winter knits, and in turn make them last longer and produce less pilling… so, in my equation, mouthwash helps reduce pilling and saves your winter clothes!

Get it?!

TIGHT SEASON!

I love when the weather changes and we can slip our legs into supportive, style affirming tights! Great tights let you get away with shorter skirts and add a layer of texture, style and warmth to your outfit.

But there is nothing worse than being out in your cute ensemble, loving your tights, and then…pow! Your outfit is ruined by a run in your $25 tights! HATE THAT!

So here’s what we all need to do when we get a new pair of tights.

FREEZE THEM BEFORE YOU WEAR THEM!

Yep! Take them right out of the package, briefly soak them in water and place them in a plastic bag in the freezer. Let them freeze overnight.

Take your tights out the next day and let them thaw out and hang dry.
You are now ready to enjoy your tights for many more wearings and with a greatly reduced chance of runs.

The freezing actually reinforces the fibers and helps prevent runs and picks. This works like a charm, but only on tights that haven’t been worn or stretched out yet.

So, considering it’s stock-up time for your tights wardrobe, remember to freeze them first and you’ll be able to enjoy them for seasons to come.
